Steve Meckl, PhD

SVP of the AI Center of Excellence

Steve Meckl is SVP of the AI Center of Excellence at Cyderes, where he leads the company's application of artificial intelligence to large-scale security operations. His work spans threat detection, investigation workflows, and the data engineering required to make security telemetry usable by AI systems. He moved into the role after leading global MDR delivery at Cyderes.

Steve began his career as a principal software engineer at Symantec and then spent a decade at the FBI, joining as a Special Agent and rising to Unit Chief in the Cyber Division. There he led the Cyber Action Team, the Bureau's elite incident response unit, and created its Cyber Denial and Deception program. That work earned him the FBI Director's Award for Outstanding Technical Advancement and the High Impact Leader Award. He returned to the private sector to lead incident response and managed security operations at Symantec and NortonLifeLock, served as a Managing Director at Accenture running global managed detection and response operations, and headed operations for Google Cloud's Autonomic Security Operations practice.

He holds a PhD in Computer Science and a master's degree in Information Security and Assurance from George Mason University, along with a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan. He has published research on the use of cognitive agents in security incident response and speaks frequently on preparing enterprise security data for AI.
